Totally disappointed
I know I will get flack for reviewing this after doing only one recipe but it was a total flop and I'm an experienced baker who wants to take my baking to another level. I read all the introduction and info and first off she talks a lot about using baking powder that doesn't have aluminum. No such thing in stores here. I looked at the recipe for apple pie and thought, is it really worth all those steps just for an apple pie? In my opinion, no.
I did the chocolate chip cookie recipe and it was a total disaster. I know enough about baking that when I saw the ration of brown sugar to white, I had doubts on the flavor. And why would you use clarified butter in a cookie recipe? But I did it anyway and also took the time to roast the walnuts and get some of the skins off, another step that just didn't seem worth it. The dough came out like I thought. I could tell it would neer bake into a decent cookie, which it didn't. It had no flavor at all, except the Giardelli 60% chips, which I think she recommended and are good. The cookie itself was bland, horrible texture.
***Update-I had considered taking down my review due to the author's harassing comments but decided not to. This is something potential buyers ought to be aware of.
Apparently authors are allowed to harass reviewers if they don't like their reviews.
I am glad I got this from the library before I purchased because I will not be buying this book. I think there are ways to bake that make sense and can produce a good product without all the extra stuff this author puts in the book. Just not for me. I don't mind extra steps if you get an exceptional product, but I have no desire to put the time, money and effort into another recipe in this book and have it turn out like the cookies, which went in the garbage.
