I've had this unit for just over a year (it's now conveniently out of warranty...sigh). When I first got it, I used it constantly and LOVED it - no paper filters needed, so easy to use, perfect in a household where just one person (me) drinks coffee, so affordable - life was good. Unless your mug is very tall, it does splatter coffee onto your counter a little, but I could deal with that. However, after about 7-8 months of use, strange things began happening. The coffee began tasting watery and gross; after brewing, I'd open up the coffee basket area and see residual water pooled in the grounds, threatening to spill out, which never happened before. The brew time for "bold" went from a few minutes to about 30 seconds - and even worse, the watery coffee that it made began to taste like plastic-y chemicals. Bear in mind, I keep my unit absolutely pristine; I use only spring water and I run a vinegar descaling solution through every so often too. It doesn't matter - this product is junk. I kept (foolishly) hoping it would get better, so I didn't invoke my warranty, but today I tried using it again and had to pour the coffee down the sink; the plastic taste was so bad that I worry that whatever is leaching into it is carcinogenic. If you're cool with spending the money and getting 6 months-ish of use out of this, you might like it anyway; if not, spare yourself the eventual disappointment and buy something else.
