wanted: replacement for Ziva
My husband and I were rabid NCIS fans - we have all the NCIS season DVD's, the introduction to NCIS DVD's from JAG episodes, and the NCIS Playfest DVD. Our dog is even named "Gibbs." We were bitterly disappointed with the addition of the ditzy (yet supposedly brilliant) blond, Ellie Bishop. She fits, in no way, with the team. She does a solo act and plays a lone wolf. She is insolent, and is a smart mouth, and based on his past behavior, Gibbs would have fired her long ago. Recognizing the changing scene of crime, all the terrorism plots are understandable, but they're complicated, obscure at best, and seem almost designed for this new character. (And frankly, we can get enough "terrorism" by watching the evening news.) Part of the show's appeal was the fact that all characters were "good guys" who tried to "do the right thing. Ducky's and Abbey's contributions now seem to be irrelevant, and the other characters have faded into the background. Ziva was unique as was Kate. Are they irreplaceable? Surely the writers can formulate a new role and the casting staff fill it with a more appropriate replacement who will blend, not clash, with the show's present chemistry. Perhaps Mark Harmon needs to talk to the people who did the casting for MASH who replaced multiple characters without taking away from the show's symmetry. If something doesn't change, I am afraid that NCIS will be relegated to the dust heap. If they are trying to get rid of Gibbs, then do it. Please don't allow a wonderful series to dribble away, become an empty shell and leave all of its faithful viewers disillusioned and unhappy.
