Correct Installation Not That Easy
Let me start out by saying that I am an electrician by trade. When I buy things I want them to last and not breakdown or cause me any issues after it's installed. I expect longevity and reliability with minimal maintenance. The problem I see with this set are the cables. They are indoor rated only. Knowing what I know about electricity and rubber is that if this cable is installed outdoors it will start to breakdown after a couple years of being exposed to the sunlight and weather. Even if it's under an awning. So that means that if you are going to run the cables free air outside then for good measure you will need to put them in conduit. Since the connectors are so big you will need to use a 3/4" conduit! That can get pricey and be time consuming to install not to mention it looks like crap on your house. This brings up the next issue. The connectors on the end of the cables. The connectors are not rated to be outside either. If you start getting water or any kind of humidity in the connectors it will impact your image. Over time they will breakdown and you will have issues with the image. That would mean every few years you would need to run new cables. So to prevent this from happening you would need to install them in a weather proof box. Now the installation is looking more like a commercial/industrial install plus all the extra cost in materials. This set is great for someone who can drill a hole through the wall and run the cables directly into the camera and not have any cables outside. My suggestion to the engineers is this. 1. Having a 1' cable with connectors on the camera is installation prohibitive. It would be better if the installer could connect at the camera in a weather proof housing or connector. The 1' cable attached to the camera makes for difficulties mounting and drilling holes. 2. Provide at least 4 60' outdoor rated cables! 3. Say on the box that the cables are indoor rated only! 4. Make the connectors smaller. They are huge and it makes a big mess when drilling holes. Lastly, beware that the manufacturer says nothing about this in their instructions.
