Total Bummer
I'm frustrated. I got excited about this product, with all the descriptions of what it can do, then I received it in the mail... and I discovered that it's a lazy, sloppy, poorly constructed mess.
Let's go over all the ways this was a depressing experience.
I'll accept that the Instant Pot is monstrous, taking up nearly an entire counter in my apartment. It's on me to read the product dimensions. My bad.
I won't accept that the instructions were so poorly worded, that I had to resort to YouTube to figure out how to get the Instant Pot set up and going. One set of instructions requires users have to dissemble and reassemble some parts of the product. Why?
I also won't accept that, at first glance, something appeared wrong with the construction of the device. (See photo.) I had no idea why one little tiny piece of rubber was broken off. I figured it must not be terribly important, since this was a brand new device, and certainly it had been inspected. Right? RIGHT?!
But no, this tiny piece of rubber was a critical piece, because without it, the Instant Pot gave me "C9 ERROR" warnings when I tried to use the fryer. What's a C9 ERROR? Did the manual explain it? Of course not. The manual is nearly worthless. I found out what it was on Reddit, where other Instant Pot users had encountered the same problem.
So after a long effort to simply assemble the product, I could not complete my dish. I wasted so much time. And I had on my hand a giant useless object. Fortunately, it was still within the return period, so I cleaned it, disassembled it, repacked it, and returned it for a refund. Thank you, Amazon.
But I'm still angry.
What is up with manufacturers that no longer exercise any quality control? Have they never heard of inspections? This wasn't a cheap product by most consumers' standards — it warranted some modicum of concern. Yet if you read some of the other reviews here, you'll learn that Instant Pot regularly pushes out defective products. That means consumers like myself wind up wasting time trying to figure it out on YouTube only to have it not work at all because one piece is defective.
Fun evening.
I had the option of contacting Instant Pot for a part replacement, but figured it wasn't worth the effort. The broken element was part of the sensor, which was part of the product base. And given the sloppiness and other negative reviews here, I guessed that more problems would lie in my future.
I returned it. And I know it's now just more electronic waste. And all this because a large corporation decided to manufacture in China, with its reputation for poor quality manufacturing, yet couldn't bother to practice basic quality control with basic inspections. I'm furious, and will never touch another Instant Pot product again.
Note to Instant Pot: I WOULD PAY 2 OR 3 TIMES MORE FOR A PRODUCT MANUFACTURED IN CANADA OR THE U.S. THAT WAS INSPECTED AND TESTED.
But instead, I received a box of massive carelessness.
