Can a single movie destroy an entire franchise? Star Wars VII seems to do the job...
Where do I begin? Yes, the special effects were good. Now that that has been established, the rest of the movie was utterly lame and abysmal. For starters, how could Han and Leia have possibly spawned such a douchey looking punk, with no charisma or believability who manages to single-handedly destabilize the Force, vanquish Luke, and undo all of the gains from the previous film? This movie made all of the original characters seem totally inept. Luke is on sabbatical looking like a homeless beggar on Waimanalo beach while whole galaxy is in turmoil, rendered totally impotent by some punk no talent wanna be. Luke is basically portrayed as a coward who lets an untrained Jedi do his job for him. Han Solo gets easily killed off like a bit character on an away mission in the original Star Trek. "General" Leia bumbles around the whole film in a daze. Why didn't she use the Force, or otherwise develop her Jedi skills in the decades after learning of her heritage and latent power? After the dust settles and the mesmorization Kool-aid has worn off, I predict this will not be considered a classic in 20 years. Unlike the originals that you could watch multiple times and never tire of, this one is a highly perishable, for single consumption only. If this didn't feel like a real Star Wars that is because it wasn't a real Star Wars. Disney bought Lucasfilm in 2012 for $4 billion, and took over the entire franchise... turning Star Wars VII into a high budget dud.
