This is such a badly designed appliance, compared to all the others. The sandwiches and entire meals they show being prepared is pure nonsense. This unit is largely a press and here you see a basic grilled cheese, not with tomato, onions, or anything else fancy but TWO slices of standard cut provolone cheese, and because of the press, it leaks everywhere. This would work for a single slice providing it was a small one, only the softest bread and even there I doubt it would be satisfactory. If you do NOT press down, then only the back edge cooks. Buy the Hamilton Beach one instead, it has an adaptive back hinge that accommodates all sandwich thicknesses.
