While this product seems to have merit, I suspect it is best for small dogs and applications where one person can hold the dog while the other applies the product. I tried this with my 150lb Newfie two different ways, once while the dog was lying down, and once while he was standing. Lying down the problem is how to get his paw into the grit tray, since you can only twist the paws so far. I tried hand-applying the grit and ended up covered with gobs of glue and grit that took forever to get off. When I tried the standing method, I couldn't get the glue out fast enough for him to hold his balance on three legs, and a couple of times when he put his paw in the grit tray his paw stuck to the tray! Then he'd yank his paw and the tray, and grit went absolutely everywhere. Both ways ended up spotty coverage for the dog and glue and hair stuck all over me. A couple of suggestions for improvements: the tiny glue containers are totally impractical for larger dogs. One glue stick is barely enough to get coverage on ONE Newfie paw, and you have to apply it so fast it is hard to get the glue evenly on the paw pad. The window of time you have between applying the glue and adding the grit is just too short for such a big paw - by the time I put glue on the last pad, the first one was already mostly dry (and he wasn't going to stay still to do every pad one at a time!). If there were a larger type of glue applicator, like something flat and pad-sized that you could dip the paw in all at once, it would be a lot easier to get the glue on in one shot. Or maybe a roll-on glue method? Similarly with the grit tray, if there were a way to apply grit while the dog is lying down (e.g. the paw is upside down) that would be waaaaay easier. Good idea, but needs some more refinement to be practical.
