Generates Unacceptable Level of Radio Frequency Interference
Before ordering this item, I contacted their Customer Support regarding the level of Radio Frequency Interference their bulb generates and in which country it is manufactured.
Their reply: "This item complies with the part 15 of the FCC rules, and is manufactured in China.".
I am very skeptical of the quality of any product made in China, but thought I might take a chance based on the many positive reviews.
After I received the item, the first thing I did was check it for Radio Frequency Interference to a portable AM/FM/Shortwave radio.
I am very disappointed in this bulb that I received. This is a very "dirty" LED bulb as regards to the high level, wide-band noise pollution it generates.
Switching the LED bulb on & off, I observed a very significant & unacceptable jump in the noise level across ALL of the AM/FM/Shortwave radio bands.
As a "control" for the comparison, I used a UL Listed & FCC approved 9W White LED bulb that did not generate any detectable RFI to the portable radio.
I then contacted them again w/ the above observed RFI information to ask if they will stand behind their product and send a free replacement 3W Red LED bulb that has first been tested for RFI to confirm it is not generating an unacceptable level of RFI before being packed for shipment.
Their laconic reply: "If you are not happy with the bulb you can return them to Amazon".
Even though they stated their product "complies with the part 15 of the FCC rules", their is no FCC Approval marking on the item. This mark takes the form of a capital FC w/ a smaller letter c inside the capital C. If you are considering buying an LED bulb, you will always want to check for this FCC Approval mark on the bulb to better ensure that you are buying a product that complies w/ the Federal Communication criteria for Radio Frequency Interference emissions.
LEDs that exceed the FCC emission criteria cause interference to Radios, TV, BlueTooth, WiFi, Garage Door Openers and many other electronic devices. There is a wealth of information on the internet about how serious this LED RFI problem has become due to poor quality in the design and manufacture of many LED bulbs.
All that said, I give this company an "A" for prompt response to my emails, but an "F" for standing behind their product.
It is possible that I received a defective bulb and I wanted to give them a chance to resolve the situation before writing this review.
I am very disappointed in their lack of effort to ensure the satisfaction of their customers.
