Update: I am changing my 5 star rating to a 3. After a few years, this percolator developed cracks in the glass lid but still worked great. I couldn't find a replacement lid so for $35 bought another of the same percolator. Oh my - night and day. The new one is poorly constructed. The plug falls out easily and the locked lid is so loose it spins around! It seems poorly constructed. Very disappointed after having had such good luck with my previous one. After my Presto percolator broke for the second time, I felt it was unsafe and I needed a new percolator... pronto. I searched the local stores that evening and ran across this Hamilton Beach 12 cup percolator at a great price. A bit of a risk... it seemed kind of lightweight. What a pleasant surprise when I enjoyed a great cup of coffee the next morning. I love this percolator! I grind my own coffee beans into a course consistency as required for percolators. The person who rated this item a "1" apparently didn't understand this requirement and used fine ground beans which, of course, would fall through the grated basket into the coffee. I enjoy watching the coffee perk through the clear top, the top locking feature is a plus, the basket has measure marks for how much ground coffee to put in based on the number of cups you are making, the bright "perking" and "ready" lights are a plus and the coffee stays hot, hot, hot. Also, it cleans up easily. We have been enjoying great tasting coffee everyday - perfectly brewed. I highly recommend this percolator.
