Ok Bike, Terrible Warranty Service
The bike itself is fine. Comfortable, sturdy and the programs are easy to figure out. I would probably give the bike four stars if it wasn't for problems with the warranty. My bike makes an annoying knocking noise after fifteen to twenty minutes of exercise. If you research online, you will discover that many people experience this problem. I called customer support. To their credit, the support people are relatively easy to reach, friendly and try to be helpful. Even though I had a good recording of the sound the bike makes, I was told that I would have to remove the shroud (that is the large plastic shell that covers the mechanics of the pedal mechanism). I explained that I am not handy with tools and had paid Amazon to assemble the bike for just that reason. I was told they would send an easy to follow set of instructions by email and the disassembly only involved taking out a few screws. That is not true. To remove the shroud, you must remove the mast (the pole that has the handlbars and control screen), disconnect the wiring, remove the pedals, remove the left side of the shroud, disconnect the wiring that connects to the power connection, and then remove the right side of the shroud. The instructions do not adequately explain how to disconnect the wiring, so I had to make a second call. After two hours, I finally had the shroud removed the shroud and made my third call to start their diagnostic process. Basically, they wanted to see if the bike made the same sound with the shroud removed. It did. They are sending me a new pedal, but they want me to leave the bike disassembled for further diagnostics if the pedal does not correct the problem. Here is the bottom line. Even though the warranty includes three month labor, Schwinn/Nautilus will charge you $130 for a technician unless you cooperate completely with their tedious diagnostic procedures. In this case, we are talking about more than two hours to disassemble a significant portion of the bike, waiting for more than a week (with a pile of disassembled bike components) for a part that may or may not fix the problem, and then spending another couple of hours putting it back together. If it had been a fifteen minute task to remove the shroud, I wouldn't complain. If the warranty is important to you, I suggest you look at another product.
