NOT Vietnamese Cinnamon Sticks - Check the label carefully
I ordered this product & received a bag clearly labeled from Frontier Coop as Cinnamomum burmannii (from Indonesia) with another non-manufacturer (printer-type) label placed on it stating that this bag was cinnamomum loureirii (from Vietnam). In addition to cinnamomum loureirii costing more, there is a big taste difference between cinnamon sticks from Vietnam & cinnamon sticks from Indonesia. I consider this false advertising & suggest that anyone ordering this product ensure that the original label from Frontier clearly states that the product is cinnamomum loureirii. Below is information copied directly from Frontier Coop's website explaining the difference between the 2. It should be noted that this does not appear to be an issue with Frontier Coop as their products are clearly labelled ... this instead seems to be an issue of whoever is sending this order from Amazon falsely relabeling the product. I placed an order directly through Frontier Coop & received the right product. Frontier Bulk Cinnamon Sticks, 2 3/4” long, ORGANIC 1 lb. package Botanical Name: Cinnamomum burmannii (Nees & T. Nees) Blume Product Notes: Cinnamomum burmannii, native to Indonesia, is an evergreen that grows 40 to 70 feet tall, with thick, leathery leaves up to 7 inches in length, and yellow flowers during the summer months. Unlike ceylon cinnamon, these sticks are made from outer tree bark, which is dried in quills and have a much more rigid texture and darker color the ceylon sticks. Origin: Indonesia Frontier Bulk Cinnamon Sticks, Vietnamese Premium, 2 3/4” (5% oil) ORGANIC 16 Bulk Bag Botanical Name: cinnamomum loureirii Product Notes: Formally known as Saigon cinnamon, this special variety is rebounding in popularity in the U.S., following a more than 20-year absence. Compared to Indonesian types, Vietnamese cinnamon has a distinctly sweet flavor and an exceptionally high volatile oil content. Gourmet cooks rate it as the highest quality cinnamon in the world. Origin: Vietnam
