The sand is dry, cracked but stretchy. I bought two different colors of this sand at the 1 1/2 lb. each. I wanted a total of three pounds. I use an electronic kitchen scale to make homemade bread. I weighed the sand - IN THE CONTAINER. Each container that is marked 1.5 lbs. is actually 1 lb. If they send me an extra color, I'd have the three pounds I paid for. Beware! I'm glad I started presents early this year. Additional: After letting Amazon and company know of error of advertising, they promised to send my note to quality control. This site still advertises 1.5 lb. of product after 6 mos.
