I believe the smell was coming from the plastic handle of the basket and it got worse after I pre-heated as the instruction suggested. There are three rubber knots on the inside plate which they strongly recommend you to put it there when air frying. That was surprising to me as there is no information saying it is safe to heat it up. Another problem was the misalignment of the basket outsider. Overall, I was very disappointed and upset about this air fryer. Not sure if I ever want to get one in the future.
