Great concept, has design issues.
I got this charger through Home Depot as I needed one asap. It has all the features I want, well, on paper it does. I hooked up the unit to a pair of 6v golf cart batteries wired in series, that gave an effective 12 volts at just over 200ah. The unit started charging at just over 30 amps. Fantastic! Sadly that was short lived. It stopped charging 3minutes later and it incorrectly concluded that I had a second battery connected, then proceeded to go into dual battery mode and only charge at 15amps. I pressed the button to force it into single battery mode and it started charging at 30 amps again. About 3 minutes later it did it again. The instruction manual states that it checks 3 minutes after starting to see the battery state. It is meant to report any issues but it didn't. As it happens, I am an electronics design engineer so figured the problem was likely no load resistance, or not enough load (it should be designed to allow for component tolerance). So I put a small load on the unit. This fixed the problem. Unfortunately, the unit would not allow me to use the DC output mode that is provided. At this point I boxed it up and exchanged it. Unit two was plugged in and tested. It refused to charge at 30 amps in single battery mode. The most it put out was 2 amps. Even though I had only one battery I forced it into dual battery mode. Suddenly it started charging at full current, 15 amps max in dual mode. I switched back to single mode and the current dropped to 2 amps again. The battery was a 105ah unit at 50% charge. I took a guess that the battery might be a factor so tested it on the original golf buggy batteries. It supplied 6 amps in single mode and 15 amps in dual mode. Whatever the fault is it refused to go higher in single mode than dual mode. Completely opposite of what should happen. So tomorrow I will exchange it for a third time. My personal view is that this product has great potential but is plagued by problems due to marginal design tolerances. As such it will work great for some people and be completely hopeless for others. Which explains the wide range of reviews. A little more thought in the control side of the software and an increase in pull down load would have solved both these issues. The manufacturer needs to have better quality control procedures, unfortunately this is an aspect that most Chinese made products fail on since they have little expertise in that field. Would I recommend it? As much as I'd like to I cannot. Knowing why this product is failing under my usage conditions I know it is simply a numbers game. You may get one that works with what you have now but it might not work when you replace your battery or try it on another battery. This is the result of poor qc and feedback to the design teams. It would not take much to make this a 5 star product. A little applied expertise in this field and a willingness to do so. I hope they hire someone who knows what the problems are and resolve it. It is the best charger I have seen conceptually. The execution of it however is a fail. As such I give it 3 stars. A split between what it is when it works vs what it is when it doesn't. *** edited to add *** Well, its been a few months now and the third charger failed. It constantly goes into recondition mode instead of charge mode. The battery it was charging failed so I bought a new battery. It still kept going into recondition mode with a brand new battery. I suspect it caused the failure of the first one since recondition mode on this particular charger discharges the battery. So now its cost me a battery that was more expensive than the charger and ruined a new battery in under a week. The display has also failed. Some segments no longer display. So it is now impossible to read what it is doing, what voltage it thinks its measuring etc. Given the previous two units failed that makes three out of three failures and it killed two batteries instead of charging them. The unit should never enter recondition mode of its own accord. This should be a manual only option. As such I amend the review to 1 star. Its unreliable and damages batteries when it fails.
