Essentially a DISPOSABLE Roaster Oven....
I am surprised at the number of positive reviews this product has recieved so far, but I think sometimes folks write a review before the test of time. I have used this roaster several times and intially I liked it. However, after not too many uses the surface of the cookwell started to chip and once that happened the flaking off of the enamel progressed rapidly - which makes the roaster unusable for cooking stews or roasting meats directly in the cookwell. The quality of the coating of the cookwell is totally substandard and I would think an embarassment to the Oster company. A replacement cookwell is not available for this product and I am still waiting to hear back from Oster. I am not the only purchaser of this roaster who has experienced this problem, so I am not unique in this.
My recommendation - if you only see yourself using this roaster on a few occasions, then perhaps the low price justifies buying a product that has such a limited useful life. However if you want to actually get some use out of a roaster oven and have it for many years, then I would suggest the NESCO 18 qt Roaster with a STAINLESS STEEL cookwell. Twice the price (with shipping) of the Oster oven, but many times the useful life. I have one now and find it to be well worth the extra money. Be sure to carefully read the description for the Nesco - it does offer cheaper models with an enamel cookwell - you want the stainless steel cookwell. Many models will state stainless steel in the title but it's referring to the outer body. Look in the item specs for what the liner or cookwell is made of.
