Rusty Earbuds and Dead Speaker--TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE....THEY LIED TO ME
I purchased these in August 2015 because my partner had a pair that he really enjoyed at the gym. Plantronics also have a great reputation for quality and customer service, at least that's what I thought. I use these daily at the gym and I will preface this by saying I sweat a lot. I was a HUGE fan of these headphones. They were perfect for my daily gym activities. Fast forward to April 2016 when I started having issues with sound and the earpieces showing rusty colored streaks. I knew you could take the earbuds off so I took them off to see what the problem was. Guess what.....RUST and CORROSION big time!!!!! It was really gross to think that rusty sweat was going into my ear. So like a good consumer with a problem I reached out to their Customer Support because I thought they would take care of me. Within 24 hours I heard from Mariano from Plantronics. He listened to the issues and told me he was issuing a UPS/FEDEX return sticker for the headphones and was sending a brand new pair to my home address, all I had to do was send him my street address. I told him I wanted the Lava (Red) colored as a replacement, but he said they were not an authorized US color. He was very suspicious of my having that color since he said they were authorized to only be sold in select countries in Europe. So I sent him my Amazon order information proving I purchased the color from Amazon. I also sent photos of the rusting/corroding speakers (attached). Take a look for yourself, pretty gross. Would you want those in your ears?! Mariano was a very nice young man. He seemed sincere when he promised to replace the headphones. But after 3 weeks I had not received any RMA docs or replacement headphone. So I reached back out to Plantronics Customer Service. Again within 24 hours Mariano called. But this time his story changed a bit. He stated that the engineers stated there was no way the speakers could rust and they had never heard of such a thing. Pretty interesting since they had photo evidence staring them in the face. But Mariano did say they were going to replace them. It's now a month since I started trying to resolve a simple warranty issue with Plantronics. I've run into a complete brickwall. They lie by promising to replace the headphones. They lie by saying there is no way for them to rust even though they have photographic evidence. They lie by stating you can't buy the Lava (Red) colored product in the US. The Lava are currently on Amazon for sale this very day. I know posting a negative review will not get me anywhere with Plantronics, but it gives me the chance to warn others that these headphones are NOT sweat resistant/proof. And also that if you have an issue do not expect any satisfactory resolution. Basically I wasted $90 on a set of headphones when I could have purchased a $20-25 pair with just as good of quality and probably had a better chance of getting satisfactory customer service.
