REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILER I was enjoying this book - to the point that I stayed up until 3:30 in the morning reading it. It was a contrived story and rather predictable, but it was ok. And I wanted to see how it ended. Then I hit the Ruins scene. In about one page, the story fell completely flat. A "quickie" in the Ruins does not a passionate story make. It felt cheap and made me instantly think of the heroine what she thought herself to be afterwards - a common whore. There was no romance there; it was a quick thrill before someone happened upon them. I kept hoping it was just a dream, but it wasn't. Even as a "quickie", it wasn't even romantic. There wasn't passion in it; it was a simple satisfying of two lustful people in almost a clinical type of situation. Both could have done what they did with anyone and had the same end result. Sadly, that one scene ruined the rest of the book for me. I did end up finishing it tonight. But I don't look upon it as a fun read. One of my tests of a good romance is how much it tugs at my heart and makes me feel for the characters. I'm sad to say this book didn't do it. Towards the end, the hero has tears in his eyes. Normally, this kind of emotion would really touch me. Not so in this story. Because, at that point, I'd already lost my real affection for him. I seem to think I've read this author before in the past. And, if I did, I don't remember her resorting to this kind of plot development. I wish she hadn't this time; the book held promise. But one thing can destroy that fairly quickly. I hate leaving bad reviews of books. It's not an enjoyable thing to do, because I do know the time and effort of writing. However, this is one I can't help but leave. It's not a book I'd recommend, I'm sad to say. EDITING MY REVIEW: I looked back, and I did, indeed, read this author before. And I now recall that I did enjoy that book. It was a sweet romance. I now remember that that's why I bought "Bride Wore Blue". So the author does write some good books. This just wasn't one of them for me.
