★★☆☆☆
the strong chemical smell was terrible.
I have had a set of Samsonite suitcases which were solid, well made and lasted years. When I saw these offered, I decided that I could use a set of well made luggage. When I received them and unpacked them, the strong chemical odor was not pleasant at all. Inside each of the cases were just as bad, if not worse. I would not put my clothing in there.
Because of this odor, I read the information tag that was attached to each and I noticed that this luggage is made of a plastic that has been tagged with the California Proposition 65 Warning which means ‘this product contains chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm.’ Why would any manufacturer use this type of material to make a product? My first thought was to just throw it away in the garbage but then thought that do I want this type of stuff in landfills? Of course, this is a debate for another time. I did some research and the chemicals could have a very low count of harm. So a decision.. use or not use.
Anyway, back to the odor. I placed a couple of strong dryer sheets inside each, closed them and left them for a couple of weeks. The sheets took out the odor and left them both smelling nice. I took out the dryer sheets and closed them up again and will leave them like this for another couple of weeks to see if the smell returns. If the smell does not return, I will probably use them. They are nice.
The outer shell is thin but firm and should protect what is inside. I do like that each side of the luggage has a barrior to hold the items inside each half when the suitcase is opened so everything stays where it was placed. The wheels roll smoothly and you can either pull it or roll it at your side.
