★☆☆☆☆
AMAZING show, COWARDLY production team in Amazon Studios.
Like many others, I sped through this show with riveted excitement only to find through the reviews and verified by the media that Amazon Studios chose to cancel it after a 10 episode run. How shameful and cowardly when you have an outpour of support and enjoyment from viewers. A show that is progressive and actually presents a valuable cause - how many stupid, vapid show renewals must we endure every year that always seem to be given more chances despite terrible actings and less than stellar ratings. You have a hugely acclaimed show, Mad Men, with a similar time period and similar work place triumphs and failures. The difference: Mad Men focuses on a privileged, misogynistic, male protagonist and received 8 seasons. For once (as only in other seldom instances), I was able to cheer on the protagonists in GGR and actually see myself in them. There is already a enormous lack of minorities and women being shown in Hollywood, marketing, and advertising and for that reason, we can't imagine ourselves being protagonists and are forced to watch as bystanders in a passive viewing experience. To further find out that this was executive decision passed with no women present in process - oh the irony! Though they may quote that GGR “wasn’t performing at the level we had hoped for—either in total viewership or completion rates," I find it hard to believe that the #1 e-commerce marketplace that monopolized 60% of online sales could not afford to champion a great show and a relevant cause. We still face disparate work situations every single day and in this day and age, it's important that our biggest brands are supporting the ones who support them. Women buy your products. Women love this show. Open your eyes and take your heads out of your asses. #SaveGoodGirlsRevolt or I hope they find a network with more courage to pick them up. One may find it petty to get worked up about a show, but the only way we start to make a change in TV - something everyone watches on a nearly daily basis - we have to get upset.
