This is NOT a nailer. It's only good for very light duty tacking into soft materials the thickness of a piece of cardboard. The largest brad size it takes is 5/8" and it will not even drive that fully into most wood except the softest pine. It's no better with staples than it is with nails. There's nothing wrong with the way it's made; it's just not very powerful. If you want a real nailer, buy one that is air powered.
