Hard to get going, and will not stay lit - Blue Rhino will not cover under warranty
I've purchased countless items from Amazon, and have never reviewed. However, I think I should in this case. We bought this Outdoor Propane Gas Fire pit in July of 2015. We have many, many issues keeping it lit. When lighting, we do keep the control knob pressed in for at least 5 seconds: usually more like 20-30. Extremely difficult to get this thing going. When we're lucky, it stays lit for a while before it clicks off. It will be a large flame, then simply shut off all of a sudden. I usually rush over to the knob, and hold it in again to try and get it going before the flame goes out completely. We've removed the rocks around both the thermocouple and the burner itself, however the problem persists. We were able to keep it lit for a good hour or more the other night, but that was after it clicking off and re-lighting about 5 times prior. This has been a problem with just us on our deck. I can't even imagine how much a pain this will be when we host a BBQ with friends. We want to enjoy the fire, not constantly try to keep it lit! I've e-mailed Blue Rhino. We'll see what they say, but right now, no way would I buy this thing again. I find myself getting more frustrated with it than enjoying it which changed my relaxing mood to that of anger and disgust. Question: For those of you that replaced the rocks with Glass Rock (which we're considering), can you actually have a nice pile of rock, or have you had to leave the thermocouple and burner exposed leaving it with the appearance of your kitchen stove? UPDATE: I contacted Blue Rhino, and received an e-mail response quickly. Asked me to call which I did. They will be sending me a replacement thermocouple. Really hoping this will resolve the issue. UPDATE 2: Blue Rhino responded with a message stating that they concluded that the unit "was purchased from an unauthorized retailer". Hmm, so I order from Amazon (MrPearl11), and Blue Rhino will not cover the item under their warranty? They will gladly sell me the replacement thermocouple for $31 however. Awesome. Dropping this rating down to 1-star now since apparently MrPearl11 is not an authorized retailer, and manufacturer won't cover a suspected bad part on an item I received brand-new in the box. Of course, we no longer have the original box now, so I'm not sure what Amazon will suggest for the return, but I plan to contact them for a complete return/refund. Sure would have been cheaper for these companies to send me the replacement part under warranty.
