WARNING: Manufactured in China! but is there a better option for Pure Stevia at a good price ??
I wanted to write a short review and comparison to some other Pure Stevia's on Amazon.
After a recent attempt to kick artificial sweeteners I turned to stevia and coconut palm sugar (recommended by Dr. Oz)
I found out the Truvia I was using was not pure stevia so I turned to Amazon in efforts to find one that is pure.
I found a few brands that raised interest but one of them the top seller Kal Pure Stevia Extract Powder had its formula changed and began being made in China (As result it received numerous negative reviews). So I purchased Bulk Supplements as alternative. The item was sold Prime and bit cheaper than other brands when calculated by ounce. The listing only showed it as Pure Stevia and did not list any nutrition facts such as % of steviosides and rebaudiosid. Also they did not list where the product was manufactured. When you try to read the nutrition label that is in the picture it appears it was photoshopped and not the correct product. I reached out to Bulk Supplements and these are the answers I received after 2 attempts regarding % and manufactured location:
“Yes, this is normal. Stevia Extract is standardized to 90% pure. The other 10% is left over remnants of the plant - all natural, no additives.
It is manufactured overseas and adheres to FDA protocol and guidelines.”
“Stevia origin is Prague and manufactured in China. As for the extraction: "Production of Stevioside involves water extraction from the dried leaves, followed by clarification and crystalization processes. Most commercial processes consist of water extraction, decoloration, and purification using ion-exchange resins, electrolytic techniques, or precipitating agents." I hope this answers your question! Should you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us at any time and we will be happy to answer! Thank you and have a great day!”
With that said the formula does taste ok and you only need a small amount to sweeten. When I add it to tea of coffee it does dissolve better than the Mood & Mind brand. My biggest concern and lower rating for this product is that it is manufactured in China. I gave this brand slightly better rating because they did put a nutrition label, manufactured date and expiration date. The failed to label manufacturer or origin of leaves. I don’t know about you but I just don’t trust food products from China. They don’t follow the same guidelines or regulations that we do here in the US. In Conclusion, after purchasing two different brands and reading a dozen reviews for like product. It appears that it may not be easy finding a pure stevia that is manufactured here in the US and at a reasonable price. If anyone has a brand that is solid pure stevia that they recommend please post it in my comments, thanks for reading!
