I researched mattress pads quite a while before settling on this. I didn't want the compressible foam but I needed to add a pillow top to a regular mattress. The amount of batting in this is exactly equivalent to putting one, maybe two comforters on your bed under the sheets. It provides a slight amount of cushion but no real padding to speak of. As others have noted, the elastic corners are useless and pop off the corners immediately. I know you really, really want this to be the one, because the price is right and the manufacturer's pictures make this look so thick and padded with a big wide gusset, but this isn't what you're looking for. The batting in real life doesn't fluff out to fill the gusset as it appears in the picture. You will put it on your bed and wait for it to expand after shipping and then realize you were a sucker, just like the rest of us, and you can't return it now. Just sleep on top of a couple of comforters and save the money.
