Poor quality control! Good mattress...if you get a good one!
Some observations... We purchased two of these, both 12" in the Full size. One was shipped from Oakland, CA. It is an excellent mattress. Expanded almost completely (+/- 11") within probably a half hour. Firm, with just the slightest bit of "give" to conform to your body. Very comfortable and supportive. Even the edges have great support. If I sit on the edge it compresses maybe 3". When you lay on it, it may compress an inch or so, then it stops. Construction is good. You can't tell there are multiple layers, even if you run your hand down the sides of the mattress. It's clear that the layers were cut very evently in size and glued/attached with precision. The other mattress was shipped from Middletown, PA. It is terrible--about equivalent to a knock-off. Expanded to only 10" in the middle region and about 6" at one end and 8" at the other. It is spongy, with zero support. When you get into it you literally cave into it. Zero edge support as well. The layers are not cut evenly, and you can feel/see the different sizes in layers on each side of the mattress. At the top the layers aren't even attached. Not sure if there is any relation as to where it was shipped from..but I'd be interested to know for those of you who find issues with it, did it originate from Middletown, PA (look at the tracking info)? Could be that the manufacturing process (if it is not done at a single facility) is varying, and this is why there is such a difference in opinion with some of the reviews on here. Some of the negative reviews sound like what I am experiencing. As always, Amazon pulls through with top-notch customer service. Replacement is on order with Saturday delivery. Will update with my experience with the replacement when it arrives. UPDATE: Replacement arrived, again from Middletown, PA unfortuntely. It's spongy as well...albeit not as spongy as the first one from PA. Construction is similarly poor with jagged/rough edges where the layers meet together. Probably going to end up just keeping it. It's frustrating because we really want the firmness and quality of the one from CA. It's too bad the company doesn't have identical manufacturing processes at their factories.
