Do NOT buy this if you have nano tanks!!!! I had the original Aqueon Mini siphon for many many years. It was a lifesaver as it self primed and was perfect for cleaning all my little tanks (2.5-5 gallons) that were hard to maneuver in. Well, it finally broke after using it hundreds of times (the plastic knob the hose attached to the siphon with snapped off), so I got broke this one out to use (I had bought it a while back just in case). First off, the hose is WAY bigger. The suction is crazy strong, which at first I was like, wow great! But then it started sucking up rocks. My decorative glass gems in my betta tanks would get sucked up in there and jammed. My gravel would get sucked up into it and either wind up in the bucket or get caught up in the part with the flap that allowed it to self prime, jamming it. So then it would not work, or if you did manage to get it going it was just a trickle (and meanwhile from shaking it to prime it your tank is now full of floating poop). I was pretty disgusted and got to my last tank, my 5 gallon hexagon Nano. I was leary, as it has pygmy cories, Enders, Ember tetras and lots of shrimp. But I was careful and it seemed to be ok, but then it suddenly jammed. I stopped siphoning and looked into the tube, only to realize my female betta, who was actually the biggest fish in the tank, must have somehow darted into the path under the siphon and gotten sucked into it. She was trapped in the flap part and we could not get her out as there is no way to disassemble that piece. We finally were able to get the tube off and gently take a chopstick and push her carefully back out. But it was too late. She had actually been sucked in so hard she was basically eviscerated. She was broken in half and her internal organs were pulled out of her. I am so absolutley broken hearted right now...I loved that little girl. Had her for a long time and she was one of my favorites. Peaceful enough to live in harmony with all her tiny tankmates, shrimp and snails and never hurt anyone (female bettas can be as nasty as the males sometimes). I am just so pissed right now. Please understand I have been keeping fish for over 35 years. I have 20+ aquariums and everything from guppies to rare catfish. I know what I am doing. This item is NOT SAFE FOR NANO/SMALL AQUARIUMS OR THEIR INHABITANTS!!!!!!!
