$500 delayed doorbell
I had a lot of hope for this product. I own the Ring floodlight camera and it works great. I have great video and audio from the Ring Doorbell Elite, however, the device somewhat fails as an actual doorbell. After installing, the doorbell has a fairly noticeable delay between the time the button is pushed and the time the mechanical chime is activated (about 4 seconds). After contacting Ring support and verifying various things such as the mechanical doorbell transformer brand/VAC, the mechanical chime brand and any delay by just contacting the doorbell wires (there was zero), the technician merely stated that a delay of up to 5 seconds is normal. So, basically a $500 doorbell does not work as well as a $20 doorbell from the local big box store. While the video captures the person walking up to the door (i assume due to motion detection), the person at the door is usually walking off by the time I can get to the door due to the delayed response. People also often press a couple times after the first time when they don't hear the mechanical chime sound immediately. There is no reason for a delay in the mechanical chime. The Ring Elite gets its power from the PoE connection, thus there is no reason the doorbell shouldn't immediately complete the mechanical chime circuit and cause an instant mechanical chime. I expect more from a $500 product. I will be looking to other brands for my future video and security needs and cannot in good conscience recommend this product to anyone.
