I purchased this heat mat in 2017 and have used it for two growing seasons (cumulative usage of about 4 months). The mat comes rolled for shipping and I keep it gently rolled up for storage in the same manner. I place nothing other than seed starting trays above the mat and keep a tough work rug below the mat. I noticed it was not warming up today and was lucky that I spotted the small burn hole seen in the pictures. I see no signs of trauma/damage and keep the mat very clean (also seen in photos). I was lucky to catch the smoldering short before more of the rug and house could have burned. I own several heat mats from different garden suppliers and this is the only one that has ever shorted out in such a dangerous fashion. I see several other customers have had similar experiences and I will not be purchasing VivoSun heat mats again. The only bonus here is that a lesson was learned before serious property damage occurred and it gives me great content for discussion on my garden blog.
