Does not work like the TV commercial. I have it placed 2 feet away from me and it doesn't understand me unless I turn towards it and raise my voice way above normal(near yelling). Alexa has a way lower "IQ" then Cortana on Windows 10 and extremely inferior to Siri. At best she can answer 1 of 50 questions, normal questions. If she doesn't understand she often( almost always actually) starts playing Amazon Prime music, even if music was never ever even close to a word in the question. Very rarely turns on when you state her name, again only when you scream it from 2 feet away. and face her. This was my first Amazon product that is basically a conversation piece and frustrating. My wife laughs when she sees me screaming at the top of my lungs asking a question and Alexa's response is "shuffling music" and some prime song begins to play.. All the Echo is, is a home monitoring system for Amazon to see what you will buy, IE. buy music and movies. Funny she can answer them at a normal tone of voice without screaming or facing her.and fully understands a question about Prime music or movies. I highly recommend not buying this, it has a long long ways to go to be a virtual assistant like Cortana or Siri. As the police say "Nothing to see here, please move on" lol. A $20 gag gift at best. My windows 10 Cortana is already shutting off my lights at night, knew I asked about the weather in the morning and on her own, asked if I wanted to make it a regular request at 8 am without asking. Has turned on and off my lights in balance with my usual times and can go to my apps without speaking above normal. My iphone Siri is as smart as Cortana with limited use because of being on a mobile phone, but apple truly gave her a personality, which I like alot. Amazon echo at best can answer what is 2457 times 345 . If you speak at a normal voice , she will not answer, if I ask "what is the surface temperature of Mars, she plays music. Very impersonal and as I said a conversation piece that actually won't make you look good in front of company. Really good idea but released way before it was ready. Wait a couple of years and check it out again.
