I'm not sure what the manufacturer is talking about, but there is absolutely a fiberglass cover under the outer mattress cover. I used it for a year, and when I went to wash the mattress cover, which the tag says is ok, fiberglass got everywhere. I had to throw away all of my blankets and linens and it itches like crazy. My whole bedroom is sparkly.
