Black flecks found, no solution offered by Vitamix.
I had ordered a Vitamix after researching a lot of blenders, and based on performance, ease of use, ease of cleaning, and the sheer number of healthy recipes that you can make with it. The delivered item worked as well as new one - no issues here.
However, it seems that the Vitamix containers leak some sort of black flecks into the food when you blend stuff. Obviously alarmed, I returned the item for a new one. The next item also had the same issue. Replaced again - and the third replacement also had the same issue. I wrote to Vitamix about the issue and this is what it said -
"Our quality team became aware of questions over the presence of tiny black flecks found in some containers. We’ve identified that these flecks come from a seal in the bottom of containers. The material used to make the seal complies with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requirements for food contact. The seal is made of a common non-stick composite material – PTFE – which has been used in pots, pans and other cookware for more than 50 years."
However, they did not mention what could be the side effects of consuming this thing (after all we do not consume pots/pans etc.). This is extremely disappointing - and from my point of view a health hazard. On more researching it seems the issue is well known and has been reported since July, but no fix has been found by Vitamix (nor do they promise any fix).
The reason I am writing this review is to make people aware of the health hazard. Vitamix and Amazon must immediately suspend selling items which have this issue until a solution is found. At the least there must be a WARNING informing all new buyers about this issue.
