★☆☆☆☆
Author's elitist snobbery was a turnoff
It would be too kind to say that the author's portrayal of the characters was stereotypical. They were caricatures! The foster mother, Dina, is depicted as some right wing nutjob. Poor Molly has to wear thrift store or hand me down shoes - but hey, they are Doc Martens and Birkenstocks! Gee, want to guess who the author wants us to feel sympathy for and is willing to beat us over the head until we get it? Molly with her hard life and all, still manages to have a cell phone and laptop. By the time I got to the comparison of steel cut oats (good) and packets of instant oatmeal (bad), all I could do was laugh. The part of the book set in the 20's and 30's was somewhat interesting, but the current day part read as if it were written for a 10th grade English class by teens whose world view does not extend beyond the halls of the high school.
