Wi-Fi stopped working and bad customer support
To start, I am a general contractor and my subs have been installing honeywell thermostats for my customers for years. They came so highly recommended that I decided to install them in my personal home when I remodeled it. The basic functions of this thermostat works like a dream, however the WiFi capabilities are where this device falls short. After almost two years of perfect use they now randomly lose connection to the home WiFi with the given error, "unable to obtain IP address". Add to that it the screen goes white about twice a month and you need to touch the screen again to correct it. For whatever reason the Wi-Fi will work again for a couple days to a couple weeks if I change my password. Which involves changing the password on every smart device in my smart home.
These problems lead me to contact their customer support, which was completely unhelpful. I asked them about getting a replacement, since these thermostats have a 5 year warranty, they told me I have to seek a replacement from where I bought them. I reached out to Amazon for a replacement or refund, who then referred it to the seller. Unfortunately, even though I am within my warranty, the replacement/refund was refused. So now I am stuck with thermostats that worked well but can not connect to Wi-Fi, and be aware that Honeywell does not back their warranties directly, it is up to the seller. If your looking for Wi-Fi capable thermostats, I would recommend looking at other brands.
