No so good in higher temperatures, Cable broke after 2 seasons use.
I have had many other such ice grippers and this one is the best so far. They fit on my boots quickly and securely and remove easily. Unlike many other grippers, the ICETrekkers don't slip around on the sole of the boot. They also do not destabilize your foot like more aggressive crampon-type grippers do. They are so stable and light that I forget that I have them on at all.
For me, they are perfect for trail ice/rock surfaces and packed snow but I certainly wouldn't want to use them in place of a true crampon for glacier travel. I also would elect to use snowshoes with crampons for deep snow. I don't ice fish but if I did, these grippers would be my first choice.
P.S: The ICETrekkers broke after 2-years use (only in winters). The front square section cable just parted and several of the little traction grippers fell off - never to be seen again. Originally I gave a 3-star rating, but now I'm changing it to a single star - not recommended at all.
Somethings to consider:
~Buy one size larger to fit over hiking boots.
~Think twice about using these grippers on street shoes since the spikes on the little rollers face in all directions and could conceivably damage leather soles.
~Don't forget to remove them before you walk into you house ............ Don't ask!
Edit: After a few months use this winter (2013-14) I've discovered a drawback to these IceTreckker grippers. As I've indicated above, they're terrific on ice and packed show. Today I used them on a new light snow at a temperature of 27-deg F and they picked up snow on the bottom of my boots. There was so much of this packed snow on my boot soles that it quickly became difficult to walk. I had to stop every few strides and knock off the 1" packed layer that formed or risk bending an ankle. The grippers were actually holding that packed snow in place very efficiently thus defeating their intended purpose.
