Avoid at any price
I've been using the Microsoft Ergonomic 4000 for as long as I can remember and really don't like non split keyboards anymore. I would still be using that model if they would just add backighting to it but I've given up hope of that ever happening. I would happily pay double the asking price for that keybaord if it had backlightling. So this Adesso keyboard... It's actually pretty bad. It's major flaw is that the keypress isn't reliable. If there's one thing a keyboard is expected to do it's print what you type. These keys randomly don't record the press about once in every 5 to 12 presses. I'm not a great typist so I don't type at high speed but I don't use a two finger hunt and peck method either. The faster I go the worse the problem gets. Some keys are worse than others and require a very accurate and firm press. I use a lot of computers and keyboards and this is the only one with this poblem. I'm not sure how a keyboard manufacturer releases a keyboard with keys this bad. If I was rating just based on the keys it would e 1 star. Other things I don't like... the space bar is split in half which is fine but the two halfs are very short and don't extend under my thumbs unless I bend them. I have no idea why someone would make that design choice. You get used to it but it's a flaw. The key press is a bit mushy. That's a personal opinion but again, it's different than other keyboards. Finally the PrtSc - Scroll - Pause key row sits right on top of the Insert - Home - PageUp key row which makes it difficult to quickly find Home and Insert. Again there is no reason in the world for this. There could and should be some space betwen those rows. All that said I chose to keep this keyboard until I can find a better one. It's cheap, the backlighting is nice, and it's split. If Adesso does some minor layout redesign and improve the keypress this keybard could be excelent but until they do that I would recommend avoiding it. Update: After several months of use I've had to abandon this keyboard and downgrade it to 1 star (from the 2 I originally gave it). Everything I said above remains true but the unreliable key-press has gotten worse. This keyboard can't be relied upon to write even a single short sentence without at least one typo. I'm still in shock that a company could release a product that is so bad at it's primary function.
