This tool is shipped from the factory in Germany to CMT straight, packaged I would assume in bundles packed in long boxes. But CMT then ties them into a knot to ship them to customers. The result are twists and curves "baked" into the template upon delivery. Since the template will not lay flat after "untying", it makes it extremely difficult to position and move about on a flat surface. You would literally have to drive a screw into every hole just to untwist it, let alone easily position it on your workpiece. When I wrote CMT and showed them a picture of the horribly twisted template I recieved, their representative apologized and sent me a new one, untwisted and coiled in a tight loop. But instead of examining it and seeing how it was designed, they had coiled it up on the wrong axis! This made it slightly less useless, but still too difficult to easily use. When I called him and asked why somebody at CMT didn't give just a moment's thought about how this tool would be used, and why they didn't simply put it in a long box or a mailing tube so that the customer could get the flat product he thought he was buying, the rep blew me off. Said he couldn't send me another one to remedy the problem HIS company caused by sheer apathy. In summary, this is a good tool ruined by a boneheaded retailer who can't be bothered to ship the product to the customer in a way that won't permanently bake in twists and curves that make it exceedingly difficult to use. Even after the customer explained it to them and gave them an easy solution. Don't buy this tool from CMT. They will ruin it in shipping. Instead, try to find a retailer that cares enough to ship it the right way, and cares enough about their customers not to blow them off for trying to help them get it right.
