This new G8 is a must have for audiophiles. I've been an LG fan for quite a while. Going back to the Chocolate actually! So i purchased the V-30 on release day in October 2017. Great device. Fantastic quad dac/amp. I then purchased the G-7 upon launch in 2018. Great device also that added dts-x and a digital eq. Loved the taller thinner form factor. More recently i purchased the V-40 upon release in October 2018 and the audio is the same as the G-7. So i just purchased the G-8. This is by far the best device that LG has ever produced. The audio is actually better than on the G-7 and V-40. Richer. Incredible resolution. Fantastic. I use my Sennheiser 660s and my Sennheiser 700's. Both sound phenominal. And for those folks that insist on Bluetooth headphones know that this is among a very small group of smartphones that has the incredible aptX hd!! You've never experienced hd audio over Bluetooth until you pair the G8 with Beyerdynamic's Amiron Wireless headphones. Why Samsung and Apple don't offer aptX hd on their flagships is beyond me! I bought this incredible device from T-Mobile in Crimson Red. Its beautiful. Saw that Amazon just posted the Alexa enabled G-8 in Aurora Black so i bought that as well. If you havent read Stereophile Magazines V-30 review on the ESS quad dac i strongly suggest you do so. The G-8 uses the same dac with some up to date tweaking. I cant recommend this device enough for audiophiles. Amazon just lowered this incredible device to $500! Happy listening. UPDATE October 2019: Although I stand by my initial review there is a major problem that requires this update. If you can get this wonderful device through your carrier I strongly recommend you do so. The problem has to do with Amazon and not this device. I purchased 1 G8 through tmobile and have had no problems. I purchased 2 from Amazon and here is why I strongly suggest you dont buy the Amazon version. . The issue is....my Tmobile g8 is operating on Sept. 2019 security update. Both Amazon G8's are operating on April 2019 security update and won't update further. A 6 month old security update is absurd. The reason is that LG has not done any updates for the Amazon G8. LG just advised me that as of October 21st, 2019, the April update is the Latest!! This phone was released in April 2019 and there has Never been a security update! So...apparently there will be no updates for the Amazon G8. In essence that makes Amazon's G8 a defective device that shouldn't be sold. Great device...just buy it elsewhere. Also 1 of the 2 G8's that I bought from Amazon had an invalid esn. I couldn't register the warranty with LG because they advised that there was no such device. I called Amazon. Zero help. I sent it back for a refund and purchased another one. The replacement is ok except for having an April 2019 Android security update. Absurd and unacceptable. My Tmobile G8 has been perfect and receiving regular updates. Update Dec 30th 2019: The Amazon G8 has been $399 since Thanksgiving which is a good deal. Update August 2020: Amazon is selling this 2 year old phone now for $749. Ridiculous. Just got the new LG V60 which destroys the old G8 in every category. Bigger. Newer processor. And best of all...the V60 has the brand new ESS 9219 Sabre dac! The G8 has the 9218. The 9219 is far superior. Best of all AT&T has the V60 for FREE if you add a line. Don't buy an antique.
