I ordered this composting bin and was excited to start composting, even though I intended to dumb in the yard waste I still wanted to to help the landfills and environment. I followed the instructions and inserted the charcoal pad (not sure what it's exactly called). I started using it and notice that there were fruit flies that would escape when I would add additional scraps. Having never composted before I wasn't sure if that was normal, my friend came over and told me it wasn't but wasn't sure why that was happening but also noted that the lid was not as tight fitting. I dumped the first compost into the yard waste and cleaned it out and continued to use it hoping the fruit flies would not come back. I came home after 2 days in Canada at my best friends wedding and was making dinner and opened the lid (that was on completely, I always make sure) and there were MAGGOTS everywhere on the side of the lid. I obviously was shocked and freaked out, my fiance came and through the entire bin in the garbage. This was disgusting and I would never purchase this product again or recommend to anyone. I would like my money back but there is no option to request so and I cannot return since I did not want to clean maggots out of it.
