Not as described
This is NOT anywhere near like the Hillerman novels. This is a loopy story of earth, "beyond the veil" and the thin place in-between. For some reason, not explained in the first 60%, some people are trying to disrupt this set up. The author does not seem to have spent much time with the Navajo or in New Mexico. I know this is a work of fiction, but Santa Fe is not west of Albuquerque. Navajo needing an extended care facility would never be in Los Alamos (there is no place to build one and it is Pueblo country). The description of Ben's CT scan actually is describing an MRI. I finally got frustrated with the bizarre story line and quit reading.
Tony Hillerman respects and understands the Navajo and the country in which they live. This author does neither.
