★★☆☆☆
Not as updated as it needs to be
This book arrived ripped and bent and looked more like a used book than new. I see from other reviews that other people have had the same issue, so just to let everyone know, the quality issue remains active. Secondly some of the anecdotes in the book are not aging well even though this was just updated in 2014. I did not like the references to dieting and weight loss in the beginning. I would have preferred the focus to be on health and healthy eating and not on a vanity metric... I'm not looking to give my teen a complex about food or appearance. Thankfully there seems to be just a few references and it's not a big portion of the book so far. There is a pretty appalling anecdote about how black people need to stop saying they are being held back by racism. Given everything that's happened in the last 3 years or so, that's just not accurate or helpful or improving the conversation. The the advice is generally helpful, but I suggest parents carefully read through the anecdotes and examples because a lot of it is pretty politically charged in my opinion.
