Even so, I find this a hard book to rate and review because some parts were fun, funny and touching while others made me want to immediately delete this book from my Kindle app. It flips back and forth between trash and some hidden gems of moments or characters. There are lots of truths and relatable characters mixed into the mostly unbelievable plot. So if you are typically a "contemporary romance" reader and like that genre, and can overlook or don't care about the language and the sex scenes, then I do recommend this book. It has some very good parts mixed in. Personally, the type of story really isn't my cup of tea. I gave a genre I usually don't read a chance because I really didn't have any interest in any of the First Reads selections this month. If you prefer your books clean and profanity free then it's not for you either. I did appreciate how the two narratives/points of view don't overlap but follow each other in a logical sequence (with only a couple of flashbacks in time). It contributes to a smooth, easy to follow storyline. The writing itself is decent, and the dialogue and most of the characters realistic. I ultimately give this 2 stars because it was a little too unbelievable in places and I feel the language and certain explicit scenes were unnecessary. The profanity appears not just in dialogue but in the narrative of the book itself which seems to me gratuitous and unnecessary rather than realistic. My rating reflects my own personal preferences and viewpoint which I hope will help like-minded readers. If these things don't bother you, and you generally enjoy romance as a genre then please disregard my point of view and read the book. Emery and Reese are certainly likable characters, I will say that.
