PROBABLY UNSAFE TO LEAVE UNATTENDED
SUMMARY - Poorly designed circuit is possibly a fire risk. Unattended use of product not advised.
After a few days the unit failed. I opened it to investigate and found that R13 was either not property sized or the circuit was poorly designed as it had overheated. If you examine the phontos I uploaded, you will find R13 is burned on the circuit board and the white case opposite the component shows signs of overheating as evidenced by the burn marks. The fuse in the circuit is 1 amp, enough to allow 120 watts of energy to pass into the circuit without the fuse opening up. Clearly at even half of that this unit would melt down and pose a fire risk.
I am going to consign the product to the parts bin and will not even return it for a warranty failure as I would not want to have it be the cause of an emergency in my home.
