Have used Turbotax from its beginning. It has always been the market dominant and a very fine product, until 2014. I purchased TT Deluxe w. State Return at Staples 11/26 so I could begin my year end tax planning. The cost was listed at $89.95 less a $30 Staples instant rebate, so final price was fine. I read the different version features and figured the Deluxe version still was my most reasonable choice, since my situation hadn't changed from previous years. The program installed without any problem. So I began entering estimated information. Surrprise! When I tried to enter some estate trust income in the K1 form, a script type message appeared that stated Deluxe had been changed and I needed to pay $30 upgrade fee for Premier version! First thought, I've been hacked or this is a phishing scam. So I called TT support and the associate listened to my plea and outrage, and was told I had to pay the fee or the program would not accept the K1 info. and print a filing return. I demanded to speak whith a manager or someone who could explain WTF is going on. I was told to hold, and moments later she returned to inform she could provide me the Premier download at no charge this one time only. OK, that seemed a fair recovery. The associate clearly was aware of the problems that Intuit had created with the changes. So, I cleared out the Deluxe version,rebooted, and downloaded the Premier. It opened no problem, yet. I reentered the information and when I tried to use the State forms, it would not work. When I tried to use state return it went online to update the software and determined my "software is up to date" So I tried to use state again, thinking it was ready to run, and the program went into a circular retry ( do loop) to update the software, etc, etc. I called support again and they told me to reinstall after deleting the program and rebooting again. And they gave me a case number. It was 5pm, 11/26, start the holiday. The retry didn't work. So today, 11/28 I called and they are on holiday until December. That's where it stands. I should have read the Amazon reviews before buying. I hadn't considred H&R Block or other alternatives over TT, given my long standing satisfaction. However, Intuit's decision to alter its marketing strategy to maximize revenues, which it has every right to do, have disappointed this long term customer, and it seems many others. Perhaps time has finally come to try something else.
