Don't base your purchase on the product photos. The photos are probably of the superior (and more expensive) Globys. These are cheap Globys knock offs. As others have noted, almost all of the light comes from the barrette, not the strands. The strands do not look anything like the product photos. Only a tiny amount of light is emitted by the strands. Also note that they continually flash and change colors. There is no way to lock them to a single color or keep them from flashing, other than by turning them off. Pros: They're much cheaper than authentic Globys. They do light up. Cons: The strands themselves barely emit any light, almost all of the light comes from the barrette at the top. So they're really just a flashing LED barrette with a few fiber strands attached. They don't seem very durable
