Just Bizarre Writing (w/ update)
I'm not gonna be that Star Trek fan who complains about how elements of this new show don't match up with established continuity, or how this prejudice world goes against Gene Roddenberry's optimistic vision of the future... Those are things I don't like, but everyone has talked those points to death and I can get why the new creative team would wanna try something new with this almost 60-year-old franchise. However, it's just not entertaining (for me at least), character's motivations don't seem to make much sense from scene to scene, New plot-lines are introduced just to be forgotten or dropped minutes later... and the ending? Yikes! Reminds me of a poorly written fan film but with a high budget. The writing is what kills this show for me more than any fanboy nitpicks about canon. Old Star Trek unique and different from the contemporaneity science fiction of the time, new Star Trek feels like it's trying to emulate what was popular on TV from the year before and does it badly. EDIT: Amazon has removed almost a the negative reviews for this show from public view. Bumping up the rating to over 4 Stars. Even as I write this I don't know if anyone will be able to see this update. Amazon has a hand in Star Trek Picard and removing negative reviews of it is mad sketchy. I'm hoping this this update will bring my review out of the purgatory it was sent
