Didn't live up to the hype
Let me start by saying that I really wanted to like this monitor. I researched it for 3 months and read as much as i could on it. I built a great screen in my garage and was all set. I ended up buying it directly from SkyTrak on the fathers day special back in June. I had already bought a short throw projector and I was ready to go. When it arrived, I couldn't wait to get it set up. I had watched many of the set up videos so i feel like I knew what to expect. Even with that, it was still a struggle. You have to turn off your wifi and then connect directly to the skytrak unit. That part is easy bu then if you want to run the WGT that I also purchased you have to turn back on the wifi and launch the WGT app. This always took forever to get started. Between the inability to pick up the wifi, to the logging in it always seemed to take about 20 minutes. If the unit worked as i expected, I would have been able to look beyond that. Problem is once it got going, the unit just didn't deliver. For some reason the yardages and ball flight was always off. I know my game fairly well and have a swing speed of about 100mph and hit about a 150 yard 8 iron. I've had my swing on the trackman and I also have the Sport Sensors swing speed analyzer so I'm pretty sure where it falls. Problem is on the SkyTrak my 8 iron flies about 120 yards and a good drive about 190 or so. And I fade or slice everything when in reality I play a draw. I tried everything. I made sure the unit was even with the mat surface and was aligned properly and even took it outside to make sure I wasn't crazy. No matter what I did, I couldn't get the yardages to be accurate and I couldn't seem to live with seeing my great drives go 200 yards. It made me swing harder and wasn't helping my game. That and I thought if the swing speed metrics were this far off, could i trust the other numbers? The graphics are great and playing the courses is fun, even if the yardages are so far off. One thing i would recommend is fixing the short game. Most chips don't get recognized and when you hit them hard enough to get picked up, they go over the green. This can get a little frustrating so I wish they made an auto chip mode like they do for putting, it would make things much easier. In the end, I just didn't use it near as much as i thought I would. The combination of being difficult to get online and the inaccurate results left me little motivation to regularly use the unit. And this from a die-hard golfer who plays all the time. If I had 15-20 minutes, I would just hit balls into the cool screen I built because I didn't want to struggle getting it online and then be disappointed to see my 120 yard 8 iron. In the end I sold it and will wait until a better product comes out. For now I have a great screen to watch movies and a cool net to hit balls into.
