Potential Privacy Issues -Cannot configure some parameters without cloud account
I believe if there is one piece of equipment that you DO NOT want to share with the outside world it us your router. For this product, they are forcing remote manage of YOUR network. It may sound convenient but through your router someone can potentially gain access to your personal information. I am not insinuating intent, only that it opens up the possibility for non-authorized access by an external entity. As of now, the QoS and Parental Controls cannot be managed using the firmware. I called and was told the only way to use the feature was to download the phone app and that the company intended on moving more and more functionality in this direction. The phone app does not interface to the router. You have to create a TP-Link HomeCare account powered by TrendMicro to fully manage YOUR network. I'm sorry but MTU packet sizes are not something I need/want to change remotely and I can not think of any good reason to do this other than for someone to track my network access (which sites I visit) or much worse. TP-Link is a China based company and the cloud management is performed by TrendMicro which is headquartered in Japan. Since you would have to trust an outside entity to use many of the features for this product, I thought it was worth noting that neither are US Companies.
