NOT waterproof! Take the lid off the can and sight it from underneath at a light source, look sideways. See the light shining through, where it was NOT riveted or welded? Where you see light, water can - and will - pass. We learned this after $25 worth of premium bird seed got trashed. If you keep it in a fully covered location this may not matter, but our other steel can does have a riveted handle and this one is simply unacceptable. I was unable to return it, so I gobbed on a bunch of J.B. Weld which sealed the gap.
