This device's design is flawed - it leaks power upstream from one upstream computer port to the other upstream computer port. This violates USB spec and can be dangerous to computers connected to it. More practically, some computers do not behave well under these situations - for example, I have one that will not cycle from off to on (the power button does nothing) while it is being backfed power to one of its USB ports. I have to unplug this machine's USB conn just to turn it on.
