If you don't want to adapt Tolkien's work, don't adapt Tolkien's work. I am not an adaptation purist by any means, but if you drop everything that would make this adaptation of Tolkien, then at least give us a good story and compelling characters. So far it seems that the only ambition for this show was to make the most expensive fantasy, and giving characters familiar names is just a ruse to get the in-built fan base to watch it. SAs an adaptation, this is not one. As a fantasy, this is beautiful and expensive. As a story this is an incoherent mess with no idea what or who should it focus on. Bad setup, bad characterization, bad pacing. Also, why am I the first to review this? I am sure there have been reviews previously submitted.
